Armenia and Iran have discussed expanding economic cooperation, including the prospects for long-term supplies of diesel fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan met with Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami on August 25. Deputy Economy Minister Anushik Avetian also attended the meeting, Armenpress reports.

The officials discussed ways to strengthen bilateral economic ties, expand trade and investment, improve infrastructure and develop business links.

Papoyan said the strong political dialogue between Armenia and Iran should translate into more tangible economic results. He highlighted the need to increase the presence of Armenian products in the Iranian market and make more effective use of the Eurasian Economic Union-Iran free trade agreement.

The sides also focused on cooperation in the energy and logistics sectors, including prospects for long-term supplies of diesel fuel and liquefied petroleum gas.

Papoyan proposed expanding cooperation in trade and exports, joint manufacturing and investment, energy and logistics. He also called for continued efforts to streamline border procedures.
