Iran, Armenia Plan to Boost Electricity Imports in 2026

Electricity officials from Iran and Armenia discussed increasing electricity imports during the summer of 2026 on Saturday.

The 5th Meeting of “Joint Committee of Operation of Electricity Networks between Iran and Republic of Armenia was held in Yerevan with the participation of Iran’s Deputy Minister of Energy for Electricity Network Strategy Affairs and General Director of Armenia’s Electric Power System Operator Narek Apitonyan, The Caspian Post reports citing Mehr news.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the history of consecutive cooperation of the two countries in the areas of exchanging electricity, bartering gas and electricity between Iran and Armenia as well as the relevant issues.

In addition, the two sides emphasized the need for strengthening and deepening bilateral cooperation in the relevant field.

The meeting is of paramount importance given the strategic position of energy exchange between the two countries and the need to improve operational coordination in the operation of the two countries' electricity networks.

Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia have established widespread cooperation in the field of exchanging the electrical energy and also gas and electricity exchange.
