The naval commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that US military vessels and those of its allies could be targeted if they pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement followed earlier remarks by US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, who had claimed that the US Navy escorted an oil tanker through the strategic waterway. Wright later deleted the post from the social media platform X, The Caspian Post reports, citing Al Jazeera.
IRGC Navy chief Alireza Tangsiri rejected the claim, describing it as completely false. He said any movement of US or allied naval forces through the Strait of Hormuz would face a response from Iran.
According to Tangsiri, Iranian missiles and suicide drones would be used to halt the passage of such vessels if they attempt to transit the strait.
