Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the head of Iran’s negotiating team, has left Tehran for Muscat for high-level talks with Omani officials.
During his visit to Oman, Ghalibaf is scheduled to meet with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation and coordinating efforts to stabilize Iranian arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, The Caspian Post reports, citing IRNA.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is accompanying the chief negotiator on the trip.
The visit by the Parliament speaker comes amid ongoing diplomatic activity regarding the strategic waterway.
According to Iranian officials, the discussions are part of a broader effort to establish mechanisms for managing the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, a matter that has been the subject of recent consultations between Tehran and Muscat.
