Iranian Plane Returns to Tehran After Turkmenistan Denies Airspace Clearance

An Iranian passenger aircraft operating a Tehran-Dushanbe flight was forced to return to Imam Khomeini International Airport after Turkmenistan did not grant permission to fly through its airspace.

Iran's Civil Aviation Organization spokesman Majid Akhavan said the aircraft could not continue its flight to Tajikistan because it lacked transit clearance from Turkmenistan, according to Iran International.

The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions that have also affected Iranian air travel.

Iranian airlines have reportedly canceled all flights to the United Arab Emirates from midnight September 24 amid the worsening regional situation.
