Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Doha on the sidelines of an extraordinary OIC meeting to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional and international issues of mutual interest.
President Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in Tajikistan-Iran relations in recent years, emphasizing that regular high-level contacts are key to strengthening ties, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
Rahmon and Pezeshkian also addressed the complex and unstable situation in the Middle East and the wider Islamic world, stressing the need for joint measures to maintain global stability and peace. They welcomed the recent United Nations General Assembly resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which supports a solution based on the “two states for two peoples” principle, and reiterated that negotiations and dialogue remain the most effective way to resolve regional and global crises.
President Pezeshkian noted that relations between the two countries are developing positively, grounded in shared values and historical commonalities. He added that frequent meetings have transformed diplomatic interactions from formalities into expressions of friendship and warmth, facilitating faster and deeper cooperation. President Pezeshkian highlighted the significant untapped potential for collaboration that could benefit both nations if fully leveraged.
The Iranian president also addressed the Doha summit, calling for unity among Islamic nations to counter Israeli military actions, which he said, backed by the US and European countries, shows no limits. He emphasized that solidarity among Islamic countries is essential to halt such actions.
President Rahmon welcomed the discussions and reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Iran. He expressed his personal dedication to realizing the collaborative potential between the two countries and echoed President Pezeshkian’s call for unity among Islamic nations. President Rahmon also expressed satisfaction with the recent agreement reached between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
