Tajik Leader Travels to Doha Amid Middle East Crisis Talks

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has departed for Doha this morning on a working visit to Qatar to attend an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League.

The high-level meeting is scheduled to take place today in the Qatari capital, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

Ahead of the summit, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin participated in an extraordinary session of OIC foreign ministers on September 14, also held in Doha. The meeting, convened at Qatar’s initiative, followed an Israeli airstrike on September 9 and focused on the escalating crisis in the Middle East while finalizing the agenda for the leaders’ summit.

The Tajik Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli strike, describing it as an act of aggression against Qatar’s territorial integrity and a violation of international law. “These actions represent a clear breach of international norms and the core principles of the UN Charter, further exacerbating an already fragile situation in the Middle East,” the ministry said.

The Israeli operation, codenamed Summit of Fire, targeted a Hamas command center in Doha during ceasefire negotiations over Gaza. The meeting was reportedly linked to a new peace initiative proposed by US President Donald Trump. The strike involved 15 fighter jets armed with heavy munitions and drone surveillance. Israeli officials said it was carried out in response to Hamas’ October 7, 2023, incursion into Israel and a subsequent terrorist attack in Jerusalem on September 8, 2025.

The airstrike has drawn widespread condemnation across the Middle East and internationally.

Doha, a longstanding hub of global diplomacy, has hosted numerous high-level negotiations over the past two decades, including US troop withdrawal talks in Afghanistan, Sudanese peace agreements, hostage release negotiations involving Hamas, and the repatriation of Ukrainian children.
