AI-Powered System Uncovers New Mineral Potential in Kazakhstan

A new artificial intelligence system is transforming geological exploration in Kazakhstan by assisting scientists identify promising underground mineral deposits faster and more accurately.

Industry and Construction Minister Yersaiyn Nagaspayev said that an interactive AI-driven mineral mapping platform has been developed and presented at a government meeting, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The system builds on massive digitization efforts in the country’s geological sector. Officials say more than 97% of archival geological data - roughly 250 terabytes - has already been scanned and processed, with the information being consolidated into a unified Big Data system.

The AI platform automatically analyzes historical geological records, extracts key coordinates, and generates detailed subsurface models. So far, about one terabyte of processed data has been uploaded into the system.

The result is an interactive mineral map that allows users to filter and explore potential resource zones. For example, selecting a mineral such as copper highlights areas with high discovery potential, while zooming in reveals detailed geological information for each block.

Officials say the technology significantly reduces data processing time and improves the accuracy of exploration decisions, potentially accelerating the discovery of new resource deposits across Kazakhstan.
