Earthquake Strikes Southern Kazakhstan

An earthquake has occurred in Kazakhstan’s Almaty region, causing tremors felt by local residents.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), the seismic event was recorded on April 8, 2026, at 22:55 Astana time, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

The network of seismic stations at the National Scientific Center for Seismological Research and Information of the MES confirmed the quake’s epicenter was located 117 kilometers northwest of Almaty, in the Ili district of Almaty region.

At this time, authorities have not reported any information regarding damage or casualties resulting from the earthquake.
