Kazakh Leader Hails $30 Billion in Chinese Investment During Shanghai Visit

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the strength of Kazakhstan's economic partnership with China during a meeting with executives of leading Chinese high-tech companies in Shanghai, saying Chinese investment in Kazakhstan has surpassed $30 billion.

Speaking at a roundtable with Chinese business leaders, Tokayev described Kazakhstan-China relations as entering a new "Golden Thirty Years" of cooperation, built on mutual trust, strategic partnership, and a shared vision for long-term development, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

The president noted that bilateral trade reached a record $49 billion last year, while more than 8,500 companies with Chinese capital are now operating in Kazakhstan. He praised major investors, including CNPC, CITIC, and Huawei, for their role in modernizing the country's economy.

Tokayev also thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for his personal contribution to strengthening ties, saying the high level of political trust between the two countries continues to drive deeper trade, investment, and industrial cooperation.

Highlighting ongoing joint projects, Tokayev said Kazakhstan and China have launched construction of a gas chemical complex with Sinopec, a deep corn processing plant with Fufeng Group, and a modern cotton-textile cluster with Lihua Group.

He also pointed to growing cooperation in the automotive sector, noting that vehicles under the HOWO, Yutong, and JAC brands are already being produced in Kazakhstan. Last year, the country also launched a multi-brand manufacturing facility for Changan, Great Wall Motor, and Chery vehicles.

Tokayev said the expanding portfolio of joint projects reflects a partnership increasingly focused on innovation, advanced technologies, industrial modernization, and sustainable economic growth.

The Kazakh leader is visiting Shanghai at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping as part of efforts to deepen strategic and economic cooperation between the two countries.
