Kazakhstan Among Top 5 Countries for Teacher Salary Satisfaction

Kazakhstan has entered the top five countries globally for teacher satisfaction with salaries, according to the latest international TALIS-2024 survey.

Thanks to reforms initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, teacher satisfaction with pay jumped from 39% in 2018 to 71% in 2024, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Overall, 95% of educators now say they are satisfied with their work, reflecting high professional contentment.

Major Reforms Transform the Profession

The adoption of the Law “On the Status of the Teacher” addressed systemic challenges in the sector:

Weekly teaching hours reduced from 50 to 36

Annual leave extended to 56 days

School teacher salaries doubled, and preschool teacher pay increased by 30%

Administrative workload reduced, allowing educators to focus on teaching and professional development

As a result, the share of teachers with master’s degrees tripled to 11%, highlighting improved qualifications across the profession.

International Recognition

Kazakh teachers are earning recognition on the world stage. Chemistry teacher Tatyana Belousova from Almaty was named among the 50 best teachers globally in the Global Teacher Prize competition.
