Kazakhstan plans to increase the combined cargo handling capacity of its maritime ports from 21.8 million to 30 million tons by 2030, as the country expands its transport infrastructure and strengthens its role along the Trans-Caspian route.

Cargo volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor, have increased 5.6-fold over the past five years, rising from 800,000 tons to 4.5 million tons, according to primeminister.kz.

Kazakhstan is continuing to develop its Aktau and Kuryk ports, with new terminals under construction, dredging operations underway, berths being reconstructed and the maritime fleet being expanded.

By 2029, Kazakhstan plans to acquire another eight vessels, including dry cargo ships and container ships.

Modernization of the port infrastructure is expected to increase the annual capacity of the TITR from 6 million to 10 million tons.

At the same time, Kazakhstan is expanding its railway network. Around 5,000 kilometers of railway tracks have been built or modernized over the past five years, while transit cargo volumes have reached 33 million tons.

Some 2,200 kilometers of railways are planned to be built or upgraded over the next three years.
