Kazakhstan's Almaty city is coming alive with colour and fresh greenery as spring fully takes hold, turning streets, parks, and gardens into vibrant seasonal landscapes.

Local photographers have captured the city’s transformation, showing how trees are sprouting new leaves, flowerbeds are filling with colour, and familiar streets are taking on a softer, greener tone, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

This year, spring arrived early. Snowdrops first appeared in February at the Almaty Botanical Garden, followed by a short but striking magnolia season in early April that drew large crowds of visitors eager to see the blossoms in full bloom.

For several days, the garden became one of the city’s busiest spots, with families lining up to walk among the flowers and capture seasonal photos.

Beyond the gardens, spring is visible in every detail - from apricot and apple blossoms to the fresh scent of rain-soaked leaves returning to the air.

After a stretch of rainfall, warmer weather has returned, and the city’s green palette is expanding once again across neighbourhoods and streets.

At the same time, large-scale urban greening continues across Almaty. Thousands of trees and hundreds of thousands of shrubs and flowers are being planted along roads, in parks, and at key city entrances, adding to the city’s evolving landscape.

Residents have also embraced the seasonal shift, sharing photos on social media, walking through blooming streets, and gathering in parks as outdoor life returns.

According to city plans, more than 387,000 square metres will be dedicated to landscaping this year, including extensive new flowerbeds and expanded green zones filled with heat-resistant plants adapted to the local climate.

Today, green spaces cover about one-third of the city, making Almaty one of the region’s most tree-rich urban centres, with millions of trees shaping its landscape.

As spring continues to unfold, residents are making the most of this short but striking season - when the city feels softer, brighter, and fully in bloom.
