Kazakhstan aims to reduce its electricity imports from Russia, according to Vice Minister of Energy Sungat Yessimkhanov, who spoke at the Senate’s plenary session, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.
He said that Kazakhstan pays almost 100 million tenge for electricity supply from Russia.
“We will provide more precise figure later. We expect a reduction, because we have commissioned additional capacities. We will try to keep it no higher that 2 billion kWh, probably less,” Sungat Yessimkhanov said.
Meanwhile, he emphasized that tariffs for Kazakhstanis may increase by 1 tenge per kWh during peak hours.
Yessimkhanov underscored that in the following years, Kazakhstan plans to reduce electricity imports from Russia.
“Last year, we purchased 2.6 billion kWh, as per a plan. This year, we intend to buy less. Upon commissioning all capacities in 2027, I think, we will not purchase electricity from abroad. We will have our own export potential,” the Vice Minister said.
