Kazakhstan and Singapore have signed agreements on sustainable water management, multimodal transport, trade facilitation and digitalization, including efforts to develop the Middle Corridor.
Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov met with Singapore’s Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong to discuss the implementation of agreements reached during Lee’s talks with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, The Caspian Post reports, citing primeminister.kz.
The sides discussed prospects for trade, economic and investment cooperation, with a focus on digitalization, artificial intelligence and joint educational initiatives.
Officials highlighted positive trends in bilateral economic relations. Trade between Kazakhstan and Singapore approached $1 billion last year, while turnover reached $777 million in the first six months of this year, a 2.5-fold increase compared with the same period a year earlier. In 2025, gross foreign direct investment from Singapore doubled to approximately $1.5 billion.
The sides also discussed opportunities to diversify trade, expand investment cooperation and launch new joint projects. Agriculture, transport and logistics, digitalization and artificial intelligence were identified as promising areas.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening trade and economic ties and implementing the agreements reached.
The following documents were signed:
- An agreement between Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise on the Leadership in Sustainable Urban Water and Waste Management capacity-building program.
- A memorandum of understanding between Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise on cooperation in multimodal transport, trade facilitation and digitalization.
The agreements provide for knowledge exchange, professional development for Kazakh specialists and the introduction of advanced approaches to water resource management, transport and trade ecosystems, including efforts to unlock the potential of the Middle Corridor.
