Nuclear Cooperation in Focus as IAEA Chief to Visit Kazakhstan

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi is set to visit Kazakhstan from May 25 to 27, 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening cooperation in nuclear energy, science, and medical applications.

The visit will include high-level meetings with Kazakh officials and the signing of a long-term roadmap for expanded cooperation between Kazakhstan and the IAEA covering the period 2026-2036, The Caspian Post reports via BAQ.kz.

The two sides are also expected to sign several agreements focused on scientific collaboration and the development of nuclear medicine, highlighting the growing role of peaceful nuclear technologies in healthcare and research.

The visit is expected to significantly deepen Kazakhstan’s engagement with the IAEA, particularly in advancing nuclear safety, scientific innovation, and the peaceful use of atomic energy.

Kazakhstan, one of the world’s leading uranium producers, continues to position itself as a key partner in global nuclear governance and research initiatives.
