A projectile strike near Iran’s only operational nuclear facility has left one person dead, intensifying fears over the risks of attacks close to sensitive nuclear facilities.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), fragments from a strike linked to reported US-Israeli operations hit an area near the Bushehr plant, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.

Iranian authorities confirmed that radiation levels remain unchanged, easing immediate concerns of a nuclear incident.

The victim was identified as a member of security personnel, with damage reported to an auxiliary building, while the main infrastructure of the facility remained intact.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed the site has been targeted multiple times since hostilities escalated on February 28, criticizing what he described as insufficient attention to nuclear safety.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi voiced “deep concern,” warning that nuclear sites and nearby areas must never be attacked, as even supporting facilities may house critical safety systems.

He renewed calls for maximum military restraint to prevent a potential nuclear accident.

The incident comes amid a broader escalation involving United States and Israel targeting Iranian industrial infrastructure.

In southern Khuzestan Province, multiple petrochemical sites were reportedly hit, with explosions and fires observed across key energy facilities. At least five people were injured.

Located in the coastal city of Bushehr, home to around 250,000 residents, the nuclear plant remains a critical part of Iran’s energy and industrial network.
