Woman Tries to Smuggle 2.8 Kg of Gold From Kazakhstan to China

A citizen of Kyrgyzstan attempted to transport six gold bars weighing a total of 2.8 kilograms from Kazakhstan to China by hiding them beneath the insoles of her shoes.

The gold was valued at 182 million tenge, equivalent to approximately $401,000, according to Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The woman purchased the bars in Kyrgyzstan before bringing them into Kazakhstan. The gold had a precious metal content exceeding 99%.

The bars were discovered during a security inspection near the "Khorgos" International Center of Border Cooperation, a major border hub between Kazakhstan and China.

A court ordered the confiscation of the gold and its transfer to the state.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
