Earthquake Strikes Border Region Between Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan

The Institute of Seismology of the Kyrgyz National Academy of Sciences has reported an earthquake near the border region between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

The seismic event occurred on August 2, at 12:27 p.m. (GMT+6), The Caspian Post reports per Kyrgyz media.

The epicenter was pinpointed approximately 20 kilometers southwest of the village of Shibee and about 160 kilometers southwest of the city of Osh.

The tremors registered an intensity of around 2.5 on the Richter scale in the nearby villages of Shibee, Karamyk, and Kara-Teyit.

No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been confirmed.
