Kyrgyzstan Launches First Solar Power Plant in Kemin

Kyrgyzstan has put its first-ever solar power plant into operation in the town of Kemin, marking a historic step in the country’s energy development.

The ceremonial launch was held in the presence of President Sadyr Japarov, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

The new solar power plant has a capacity of 100 megawatts and covers an area of 230 hectares. The project was implemented through a Chinese investor, with total investment reaching $56 million.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, President Japarov stressed that the development of renewable energy sources-solar and wind in particular-is a key priority of Kyrgyzstan’s energy strategy, alongside the construction of hydropower plants.

He noted that the commissioning of the country’s first solar facility ushers in a new phase in building a modern, sustainable, and diversified energy system, strengthening energy security and supporting long-term economic growth.
