Kyrgyzstan’s freight transport sector continues gaining momentum, reflecting strong domestic demand and growing trade activity across the region.
The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is reporting a steady increase in both passenger and freight transport across member countries, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.
In the first five months of 2025, total passenger turnover within the union rose by 2.8 per cent, with several countries showing marked improvement:
Kazakhstan: +12.9 per cent
Belarus: +6.8 per cent
Kyrgyzstan: +5.6 per cent
Russia: +1 per cent
The freight sector also saw positive year-on-year gains, most notably in:
Kazakhstan: +13.6 per cent
Kyrgyzstan: +10.8 per cent
Armenia: +0.1 per cent
In total, the EAEU’s freight transport volume grew by 0.5 per cent, continuing an upward trajectory noted in early 2025.
Kyrgyzstan, in particular, has demonstrated robust momentum. In the first quarter of 2025, the country reported that demand for imported cargo shipments had doubled, reflecting rising trade activity.
The EEC attributes the union-wide growth to increasing economic activity, strategic infrastructure investments, and strengthening cooperation among member states.
