Yerevan Detains Armenian Consul in Austria on Spy Allegations

Armenian Consul to Austria, Ashkhen Aleksanyan, has been detained around two months ago upon her return to Yerevan.

Authorities reportedly discovered documents in her possession that raised suspicions of espionage on behalf of Azerbaijan, The Caspian Post reports via Armenian media.

Following her detention, the National Security Service conducted searches at the Armenian Foreign Ministry, examining computers and official records.

The arrest was not publicly disclosed at the time in order to avoid a potential scandal.
