Kyrgyzstan is set to officially introduce the digital som into circulation on January 1, 2027.

The digital som will serve as the national currency in a new digital format, operating alongside cash and non-cash payments, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Authorities say it will be recognized as legal tender across the country.
