Kyrgyzstan experienced a sharp rise in road accidents during the first six months of 2025, with 3,729 incidents reported, marking a 21.9 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
The capital city Bishkek accounted for the majority of these accidents at 51.9 per cent, followed by the Chu region (18.2 per cent) and Osh region (8.9 per cent), The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.
The accidents led to 5,427 injuries nationwide, a 21.6 per cent increase year-on-year. Fatalities also rose by 23.6 per cent, with 346 deaths recorded in the first half of 2025.
Of particular concern is the rise in accidents involving minors, which increased by 29.9 per cent to 1,012 cases. Tragically, 42 children lost their lives and 1,117 were injured in these incidents.
Authorities also reported 185 accidents caused by drunk driving, a 22.5 per cent increase compared to the first half of 2024.
Law enforcement officials are urging drivers to strictly follow traffic rules, remain vigilant on the roads, and avoid driving under the influence to prevent further tragedies.
