A major power outage has left several cities and districts without electricity in Russia’s Transbaikal Territory amid heavy snowfall.
Power outages have been reported at hundreds of addresses in Chita, Zabaykalsk and Borzya, as well as in several districts across the region, according to SHOT.
In Chita, trolleybus services reportedly came to a halt and traffic lights went dark. People have also complained that electricity providers have not yet given a precise timeline for restoring power.
Preliminary reports suggest the widespread outage may have been caused by damage to power networks due to severe weather.
The first snowfall hit Chita on October 15, with precipitation intensifying in recent days. Snow has fallen across 15 districts of the territory.
Further snow and strong winds are forecast for the region, with gusts expected to reach 20 meters per second, raising concerns about continued disruptions.
