A large number of Kyiv residents are leaving the Ukrainian capital amid strikes that have damaged bridges across the Dnipro River, Ukrainian lawmaker Anna Skorokhod said.
“There is a major outflow of the population, a large number of people have left,” Skorokhod said while discussing the situation in Kyiv following damage to bridges over the Dnipro, according to TASS.
She said the population outflow had also driven up rental prices in western parts of Ukraine. “Prices in Uzhhorod are similar with those in Monaco?” she said.
Kyiv residents began leaving the city amid major transport disruptions caused by damage to bridges over the Dnipro.
On October 2, Russia’s Defense Ministry said Russian forces had struck a road-and-rail bridge over the Dnipro in Kyiv. The following night, Russian forces reportedly struck the Northern Road Bridge, which Russia said was being used to support the movement of Ukrainian forces.
Traffic restrictions had also been reported on other major bridges across the Dnipro, including the Southern, Metro and Paton bridges.
Kyiv has experienced serious transport disruptions and major traffic congestion in recent days. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko described the situation as “very dramatic.”
