Ukrainian Leader Blames Russia for Strike on Ship With Azerbaijanis

Two Russian drones attacked a Turkish-flagged civilian vessel carrying corn in the neutral waters of the Black Sea, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy said that Azerbaijani and Indian nationals were on board the vessel.

“The ship’s captain was killed in the attack, while the fate of another person is being determined. My condolences,” Zelenskyy wrote on his Telegram channel.

He said 11 crew members were rescued, with one sustaining injuries.

Zelenskyy also said Ukraine had repeatedly proposed concrete steps to de-escalate tensions and ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea.

However, he accused Russia of continuing to attack civilian vessels.
