Russia says the World Health Organization (WHO) has found no public health risks related to a suspected plague case in Siberia, which Moscow has described as a case of community-acquired pneumonia.
“Preventive measures in the region have been organized in full, and there are no epidemic risks to the population,” Russia's Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare [Rospotrebnadzor] said in a statement, according to strana.ua.
The statement comes after the US Embassy in Russia warned American citizens about a potential plague threat and urged them to leave the country immediately.
Russian authorities have not confirmed a plague outbreak, while the situation has prompted differing assessments from Russian and US officials.
