Russia Shuts Border Crossings with Latvia, Finland, Estonia

The Russian government has ordered the closure of several railway crossings along its borders with Latvia, Finland and Estonia, according to a decree that took effect on July 1.

Under the government decision, the movement of people, vehicles, goods and cargo through the designated border crossing points has been suspended, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.

Russia's Foreign Ministry has been instructed to officially notify the governments of Latvia, Estonia and Finland about Moscow's decision.

The border crossings affected by the measure include the St. Petersburg-Finlyandsky, Vyborg, Vyartsilya, Ljuttja and Svetogorsk crossings on the border with Finland.

The Pechory-Pskovskiye crossing on the border with Estonia and the Pytalovo crossing bordering Latvia have also been closed.

The decree entered into force on July 1, effectively halting traffic through the specified railway border checkpoints.
