Russian Military Losses in Ukraine War Could Reach 2.1 Million

Russia’s total military casualties in its war against Ukraine could have reached 2.1 million, including as many as 770,000 soldiers killed.

The total number of Russian military casualties, including those killed and wounded, ranges from 1.4 million to 2.1 million. The estimated death toll stands at between 374,000 and 770,000, according to UNIAN.

These figures represent a significant increase compared with the publication’s previous estimates. In May 2026, Russian military deaths reached between 280,000 and 518,000, with total casualties ranging from 1.1 million to 1.5 million.

In July 2025, between 190,000 and 350,000 Russian troops had been killed, while total killed and wounded stood at between 900,000 and 1.3 million.

The study also points to changes along the front line. Over the past three months, Ukrainian forces have reportedly advanced across 73 square kilometers, reclaiming approximately half of the territory Russia had captured since the beginning of the year.

According to figures released by Ukraine’s General Staff, Russia’s total military casualties since the start of its full-scale invasion stood at approximately 1,588,170 killed and wounded as of October 31.

Russia reportedly suffered an average of 1,750 military casualties per day in October, according to the Ukrainian military.
