Türkiye Arrests 32 Football Club Presidents Over Betting Scandal

A major football scandal in Türkiye involving illegal betting and match-fixing, which began last year, has escalated with the recent arrest of 32 club leaders.

The operation targeted presidents of several top-division teams, including Göztepe, Konyaspor, Alanyaspor, Antalyaspor, Kocaelispor, Gençlerbirliği, and Sivasspor, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Police conducted raids across 10 provinces to detain the suspects, with all taken into custody except for one individual who remains at large.

The prosecution says the arrested club officials placed bets on matches involving their own teams, and in some cases even bet on opponents to win.

This follows earlier high-profile arrests in Turkish football, which saw 108 coaches and 104 club managers investigated for similar betting activities, highlighting the ongoing crackdown on corruption in the sport.
