Turkish authorities have arrested a Moldovan citizen wanted internationally on an Interpol Red Notice during a special operation in Istanbul.
The man, identified by the initials I.R., was detained by officers from the department responsible for combating drug-related crimes, TRT Haber reports.
Moldovan authorities had sentenced I.R. to eight years in prison for large-scale drug trafficking.
Investigators identified his address in Istanbul’s Esenyurt district through operational and technical measures and subsequently carried out the arrest.
Following the completion of the necessary legal and procedural steps, I.R. will be transferred to a Geri Gönderme Merkezi (Repatriation Center) ahead of his planned extradition to Moldova.
