Türkiye’s Environment Minister Murat Kurum held the first COP31 Advisory Board meeting on Tuesday, presenting a 10-point action plan aimed at turning climate commitments into concrete measures ahead of the November summit in Antalya, which seeks to ensure no country is left behind in global climate action.

Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum on Tuesday convened the first online meeting of the Advisory Board for this fall's COP31 climate conference, outlining Türkiye's vision to shift global focus from rhetoric to concrete action during the upcoming Antalya summit, Yeni Şafak reported.

Implementation-focused Agenda

Speaking during the virtual session, Kurum - who also serves as COP31 president - presented the 10-point COP31 Action Agenda and six global implementation goals designed to prioritize tangible outcomes over diplomatic language. He briefed participants on ongoing diplomatic efforts undertaken by the presidency, stating that negotiations would continue with the aim of holding an inclusive conference in November that leaves no one behind.

Stakeholder Engagement

Writing on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Kurum described the Advisory Board as essential to the diplomatic push: "Our Advisory Board will be one of our most important stakeholders throughout the COP31 process." He added that this year's conference expects participation from experts worldwide, noting: "We will not leave COP31 as merely a conference; through common wisdom, dialogue, consensus and action, we will make it a key to the global fight against climate change."

November Summit

Türkiye will host the UN climate change conference in the southern coastal city of Antalya on Nov. 9-20, bringing together senior officials and technical experts from across the globe. The Advisory Board was established specifically to guide preparations for the summit, according to a ministry statement.
