Turkish prosecutors are investigating a suspected money laundering scheme involving assets worth approximately 650 million Turkish lira ($13 million).
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is examining eight companies linked to nine suspects as part of the investigation. Police carried out simultaneous searches at multiple locations, according to TRT Haber.
According to investigators, the suspected illicit proceeds were laundered through businesses operating in tourism, food services, construction and licensed alcohol-serving establishments.
Investigators reportedly identified suspicious changes in company ownership that were not supported by documented financial transfers. Despite the ownership changes, links between former and new owners remained, raising suspicions.
The investigation uncovered 12 properties, eight vehicles and three entertainment venues licensed to sell alcohol. The combined current value of the assets is estimated at around 650 million Turkish lira, equivalent to approximately $13 million.
During the searches, police seized digital storage devices and documents for examination.
