Türkiye’s General Directorate of Maritime Affairs announced that the security level for Turkish-flagged vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz has been elevated to Level 3 following reports of radio broadcasts claiming that Iran had banned ship movements through the waterway.
In a statement shared on X, the directorate urged vessels to closely monitor navigational warnings in the region and, if necessary, contact the Main Search and Rescue Coordination Center (AAKKM), The Caspian Post reports, citing Anadolu.
The move comes amid heightened tensions after the United States and Israel carried out joint strikes on Iran on Saturday. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks.
Iran also confirmed on Sunday the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior officials in the attacks.
