Turkish loitering munition, the 1,000 km range “Sivrisinek” (Mosquito) has appeared in Azerbaijan's Army colours.

It has been revealed that the Sivrisinek loitering munition, developed by BAYKAR and with a range of over 1,000 kilometers, has entered the inventory of the Azerbaijani Army, according to defense mirror.com.

Earlier, BAYKAR’s Bayraktar TB2 drone had played an important part during Azerbaijan’s conflict with Armenia a few years ago.

Sivrisinek is a new generation loitering munition developed by BAYKAR. The system was first showcased in a swarm flight test conducted at the BAYKAR Flight Training and Test Center in Edirne in April 2026, together with the K2 Kamikaze UAV, and then introduced to the public at SAHA 2026 in May 2026.

Sivrisinek is positioned as a system that maximizes operational depth with a range exceeding 1,000 kilometers.

AI-Powered Swarm Autonomy

Thanks to AI-powered swarm autonomy, the system enables multiple mosquito units to work in seamless communication, sharing detected targets with each other in real time.

During a demo flight in April, 10 Mosquito drones formed a swarm beneath the K2 Kamikaze UAVs and dived towards the designated coordinates; the system also proved its ability to perform positioning and target detection using AI-powered visual navigation software, even in environments where the GNSS signal was absent or jammed.

The system’s range, exceeding 1,000 kilometers, provides Azerbaijan with a significant deep-off capability on a regional scale.

Its deployment in a geographically isolated and strategically sensitive region like Nakhchivan further enhances the importance of this capability.
