Unusually Warm Autumn Extends Tick Season in Russia

Unusually warm autumn weather has extended tick season in Russia into November, with around 3,000 people reportedly seeking medical assistance after tick bites over the past 10 days.

Ticks remain active across the country, with new cases reported in several regions, SHOT reports.

In the Ryazan Region, 74 people, including 18 children, sought medical attention after tick bites in just one week. The Kursk Region recorded another 70 cases, including 23 children. In the Pskov Region, 11 people were bitten, while seven cases were reported in the Volgograd Region.

Experts warn that ticks can be encountered not only in forests but also in summer cottages, public parks and even residential areas.

Some ticks carry dangerous infections. In the Pskov Region, Lyme disease pathogens were detected in four out of 10 ticks examined over the past week.

Specialists caution that tick activity will continue until temperatures drop consistently and sustained cold weather sets in.
