Azerbaijani Boxer Wins Gold at World Cup in Brazil

Azerbaijani boxer Saidjamshid Jafarov won the gold medal in the 75 kg weight category at the Boxing World Cup in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, after delivering a dominant performance against Thauan Silva.

Jafarov won all three rounds decisively, finishing with a 5:0 score (30:27, 30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 30:27) and ensuring the National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played during the awards ceremony, The Caspian Post reports, citing local media.

He was the first from the Azerbaijani national team to compete in the finals of this tournament. The team’s momentum continues tonight as Subhan Mamedov (50 kg) and Mahammad Abdullayev (+90 kg) head into their own gold-medal bouts. This follows a strong performance by Nabi Isgandarov (70 kg), who earned a bronze medal yesterday.
