A large-scale apricot processing plant is slated to open soon in Asht District of Tajikistan’s Sughd Region, promising to strengthen the local agricultural sector and provide employment opportunities.
The announcement was made by district chairman Shukhrat Mukhammadzoda during a recent press conference, The Caspian Post reports, citing Tajik media.
The initiative is being implemented with the support of local entrepreneur Saidmurod Davlatov.
Mukhammadzoda noted that the project is especially significant for Asht, where apricot farming is a key economic activity for most people.
To ensure high production standards, modern processing equipment from Italy has already been procured and will be delivered to Asht in the near future. The facility is expected to adhere to international benchmarks for food processing and safety.
In parallel with the factory, plans are in place to construct a refrigerated storage warehouse with a capacity exceeding 10,000 tons, enabling long-term storage and year-round distribution of apricot products.
Widely regarded as one of Sughd Region’s leading agricultural centers, the Asht District is famous for its premium-quality apricots, which are exported globally to markets including Russia, the US, and Europe.
