The US Embassy in Dushanbe has confirmed the suspension of the Green Card lottery program, following an announcement by the US Department of State.
While applicants can still submit applications and attend interviews, no visas will be issued under the program, and all previously scheduled interviews will be rescheduled for later dates, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
The Embassy did not provide further details on the reasons behind the suspension. However, the decision comes after a tragic incident in the United States: the suspect in the December 13 shooting at Brown University in Rhode Island, which left two people dead and around 20 injured, had entered the country through the Green Card program.
The Department of State will notify applicants if additional information becomes available. Authorities emphasized that interview schedules for program participants will continue despite the suspension of visa issuance.
