IAEA, Turkmenistan Deepen Cooperation Ahead of Key Nuclear Conference

Turkmenistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are enhancing their collaboration across several strategic areas as preparations intensify for the 69th General Conference of the IAEA.

Turkmenistan is set to dispatch a high-level delegation to participate in the conference, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

This development was discussed during a recent meeting in Vienna between Turkmenistan’s Permanent Representative to the IAEA and Ambassador to Austria, Hemra Amannazarov, and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

The meeting focused on key areas of cooperation, notably Turkmenistan’s plans to accede to the IAEA’s Agreement on Privileges and Immunities. Additionally, discussions covered the preparation of Turkmenistan’s national IAEA Framework Program for the period 2025-2029, aimed at strengthening the country’s nuclear regulatory and safety frameworks.

The officials also addressed preparations for the upcoming Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), scheduled to be held in Avaza from August 5 to 8, 2025. Ambassador Amannazarov briefed on Turkmenistan’s comprehensive preparations for the event, while Grossi confirmed the IAEA’s intention to participate at a high level.
