Italy’s Ansaldo Energia Holding may play a key role in Uzbekistan’s first-ever nuclear power plant (NPP).
Uzatom Director Azim Akhmedkhadjaev met in Tashkent with representatives of Ansaldo Energia and its subsidiary Ansaldo Nucleare, which specializes in nuclear technologies, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The sides discussed expanding cooperation on Uzbekistan’s NPP project - focusing on technological integration, adapting Italian engineering solutions to local conditions, and ensuring the project’s environmental and operational safety.
Talks also explored Ansaldo’s potential role as a technical consultant, overseeing implementation and developing auxiliary systems. The parties reviewed possible collaboration in radioactive waste management and the use of Ansaldo Nucleare’s advanced spent fuel handling technologies.
The Italian company expressed interest in assisting Uzbekistan with regulatory framework development, as well as establishing joint research and training programs to build national expertise in the nuclear sector.
Earlier this year, Uzatom and Ansaldo Energia S.p.A. signed a memorandum of understanding on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Ansaldo Energia is one of Europe’s leading power engineering companies, known for designing and supplying gas and steam turbines, generators, and nuclear energy solutions through its subsidiary, Ansaldo Nucleare.
