Law enforcement officials have prevented an attempt to sell a newborn child in Uzbekistan's Termez district.
A 23-year-old student from Angor District reportedly planned to sell her son for around $1,500, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
Investigators say the woman had a pre-arranged deal and intended to hand over the baby just days after birth. The child, born in January, was supposed to be transferred to buyers four days after delivery.
However, authorities intervened before the transaction could take place. Operational officers prevented the handover and detained the suspect.
A criminal case has been opened on charges related to child trafficking, and investigative procedures are currently ongoing.
