A new aerodrome has been constructed on the shores of Lake Aydarkul, with its runway successfully tested by a CASA C295W military transport aircraft.
This development is part of Uzbekistan's ongoing efforts to expand its regional aviation infrastructure, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.
The appearance of regional aircraft such as the L-410 and ATR-72 has spurred the active development of new airports in Uzbekistan. In recent years, Zomin, Kokand and Sariosiyo have received their first flights, and now another aerodrome - Arnasay - has been added.
The aerodrome is located in Jizzakh region, on the banks of Lake Aydarkul. It features a runway measuring 1,700 m × 30 m, designated 12/30, two parking stands designed for L-410 and ATR-72 aircraft, and a terminal.
The first aircraft to test the new runway was the CASA C295W military transport plane, which effectively opened the record of landings at Arnasay.
The aerodrome is expected to become a transport hub for a future resort complex and open the region to more tourists.
