Uzbekistan, Japan Discuss Enhancing Multifaceted Cooperation

On February 7, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from Japan led by Akihisa Nagashima, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan.

Key issues regarding further deepening the friendship and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Japan and enhancing multifaceted cooperation and practical interaction between the two countries were discussed, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

Special Advisor Akihisa Nagashima conveyed sincere greetings and a personal message from the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, to the President of Uzbekistan.

In 2024, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Japan increased by 35%. The portfolio of joint projects with Japan’s leading companies and banks now exceeds $12 billion. Around 100 joint ventures and organizations are successfully operating in Uzbekistan, including the Uzbekistan - Japanese Center.

The Leader of Uzbekistan advocated for the continuation of active contacts and mutual visits at various levels. Satisfaction was expressed with the dynamic cooperation agenda in trade, economy, investment, and financial-technical sectors, including within the framework of the Japanese Government’s Development Assistance Program.

The President of Uzbekistan also extended his best wishes to the Government of Japan for the successful hosting of the World Expo, which will commence in April this year in Osaka.

An exchange of views took place on regional interaction in the context of preparations for the upcoming first summit in the “Central Asia plus Japan” format.
