Uzbekistan Leads Central Asia's Green Transition with Focus on Water Management, Says Official

The key theme of the event was “Integrating Climate Action with Economic Competitiveness in the Eastern Partner Region and Central Asia”.

In his speech, Mr. Kazbekov addressed priority areas such as urban greening and sustainable infrastructure, the implementation of efficient rainwater and wastewater reuse systems for irrigation, the planting of 200 million trees as part of the “Yashil Makon” (Green Space) and “My Garden” programs, and the installation of solar panels in green zones and parks to integrate renewable energy sources.

He noted that Uzbekistan is leading in Central Asia’s transition to a greener and more sustainable future by focusing on sustainable development, effective water resource management, and environmentally friendly practices.

At the meeting, it was emphasized that the consequences of climate change in Eastern Partnership and Central Asian countries are becoming increasingly evident. Record-high temperatures, droughts, and accelerated glacier melting are observed, leading to significant economic losses from climate-related disasters like floods.

A package of measures addressing climate change challenges could, in the long term, increase global GDP by an average of 2.8% worldwide by 2050.
