Uzbekistan Forms Diplomatic Relations with Eritrea

Uzbekistan has officially established diplomatic relations with Eritrea, marking the 161st country with which it has formed intergovernmental ties.

On July 11, Uzbekistan and Eritrea signed a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

The announcement was made by Eritrea’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

The document was signed on behalf of their respective governments by Ulugbek Lapasov, Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations, and Sofia Tesfamariam Yohannes, Permanent Representative of Eritrea to the UN.

Eritrea’s mission described the event as a new stage in bilateral relations based on mutual respect and the principles of the UN Charter.

Eritrea is located in northeastern Africa, in the Horn of Africa region. It shares borders with Sudan, Ethiopia, and Djibouti, and lies along the Red Sea coast.
