Uzbekistan Performs First Liver Transplant in Bukhara

Uzbekistan has performed its first liver transplant in the Bukhara region in the early days of 2026.

The patient, Vahidjon Nazarov from Olot district, had suffered from liver cirrhosis for several years, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

The complex operation was carried out by the Bukhara branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care, with his wife serving as the donor.

The nearly 10-hour surgery was led by transplant specialist Jasur Sobirov from the National Medical Center, in the presence of foreign expert Somon Nekhikhboliyon, alongside a team of local Bukhara surgeons.

Both the patient and the donor are reported to be in stable condition and continue to receive post-operative care from qualified medical professionals.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that introducing advanced diagnostic methods, treatment, and complex surgical procedures in regional hospitals reflects systematic healthcare development and brings high-quality medical care closer to the population.
