A Yandex Go ride has turned into a life-changing moment, when a driver helped deliver a baby girl right in his car in Uzbekistan's Tashkent city.
By chance, the driver is a practicing pulmonologist who recently started working part-time as a taxi driver. His quick thinking and medical expertise ensured both mother and child were safe, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The ride began around 11:30 a.m. from Bektemir district with a pregnant passenger, her mother-in-law, and a young child on board. Labor started en route to the city’s 5th maternity hospital, forcing an emergency stop.
“I realized the birth had begun a couple of kilometers away from the hospital. I parked immediately and helped as best I could. My medical training made all the difference,” the driver said.
With the help of the passenger’s mother-in-law, he safely delivered the baby, who cried and began breathing on her own. Mother and newborn were then taken to a nearby emergency station and transferred to a hospital, both in stable condition.
The driver, who doesn’t yet know the baby’s name, says the day will stay with him forever:
“I just did what I had to. I’m glad I could help. This is probably the most unusual call I’ve ever had.”
