Armenia should work to ensure that the conditions for a conflict with Türkiye never arise, Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan has said while commenting on efforts to normalize relations with Ankara.
Grigoryan questioned why Armenia should engage in a war with Türkiye, arguing that the country should focus on preventing conflict rather than preparing for a potential confrontation.
“Why should we fight the Turks? If they decide to attack us, we will not have time to strengthen ourselves. The misconception we have been fed for 70 years - that we must rely on Russia or the Turks will devour us - has nothing to do with reality,” he said.
Grigoryan stressed that Armenia must leave future generations a legacy of peace rather than revenge, adding that preventing war is one of the country's most important security guarantees.
At the same time, he emphasized that Armenia needs a strong military to maintain its defense capabilities.
Commenting on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), Grigoryan described trade and the development of shared interests as essential elements of lasting peace. He said the project carries economic, diplomatic and security significance.
He also pointed out that the route would pass approximately 15 meters from the Iranian border, making it important to consider the interests of the US, Iran and the wider region.
“This is an economic and diplomatic project, an instrument of peace,” he said.
